480 Ruger
« on: June 07, 2003, 05:13:02 PM »
I have just ordered a Taurus Raging Bull 8 3/8 in 480 Ruger.  I need loading info.  any help would be great.

Also, Midway has Rainier 325gr Plated Hollow Point, 500 for $65, are these worth buying?

Also, there is the Gold Dot 275, 325, and 400...and the XTP 325, any info?

I just loaded up 100 rounds for my son, using Hornady brass, CCI 350 primers, 25 gr. of H110 and Speer 325 gr. Gold Dot Soft Point bullets.  I have also used the same load with 325 gr. XTP's.
These are for my Son, and he doesn't want to shoot cast bullets, or any heavier bullets.

Have you used the XTP or Gold Dot .475 bullets on any game yet?

I don't think he's shot at anything living yet, that I'm aware of.

Thanks for the info.  Have you or anyone out there ever used the Reiner Bullets?

No I haven't used them.  I never saw those before.  Seem kind high for just practice ammo.  I can get cast cheaper.  But if they are cleaner buring   I hate to clean so if it works better maybe it is worth th eextra cost

I have shot 3 whitetails with my .480.  The first was the factory load, and then 2 more with 400 grain Speer Gold Dot Soft Point.  I like to load my .480 with L'il Gun, and the 400 grain slug took a Fed. #155 primer, and 18.0 grains of L'il Gun.  I believe the Data I got from Speer regarding the 325 grain bullet was 26-28 grains of l'il Gun, and a CCI Large magnum pistol primer.  That combo with a max load will push 1500 fps!, but it does jump in your hand.
Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition!

Here is a link to a write up I did on my 480 loads http://www.serveroptions.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=25;t=000222

I've only shot cast in mine, and they shoot very well!
