The 300Mag clocked in at 2,720 fps using factory 180gr. Corelocks thats only 361 fps loss from the 26" barrel.I like this thing.Next test it 150gr XLC's

Just curious, what's the blast like out of that thing? Does it burn all the carpet off the shooting bench? :)

The muzzle blast is no more than my non-ported 14" .444 Marlin barrel.I'm sure if it the 300 mag. was ported or had a muzzle brake on it.It would be down right NASTY.I just can't see putting a brake on any barrel. If you can't handle the gun/caliber without a brake you shouldn't be shooting it in a handgun.

PJ,

just wondering, what do 180gr's do out of your 15" .30-06 barrel?  after you have some more chrono data, do you care to post an analysis of the data comparing the 2 barrels with the the same bullet weights?  i'd be intrested to see if the .300mag gains anything over the '06 in the short tubes.  thanks a bunch

I will do some testing of the two barrels and post the comparing data.FYI......My '06 pushes a 150gr soft-point at 2500 fps a 150gr NBT at 2570 fps and a 150gr XLC at 2600 fps.All my loads for my '06 are handloaded the test on the 300 mag. was with factory ammo.I am loading up some 150's and 180's today for both the '06 and 300 as soon as I can I'll chrono them and let you guy's know.
