Bushnell Elite 4200 1.5-6x36 discontinued?
« on: September 07, 2007, 12:40:11 PM »
I see this scope on the Bushnell website, but I heard some internet scatter that this scope was discontinued. True? It sure seems hard to find, and the ones listed are high dollar. Scarce on ebay too. What's a good price for this scope if it is available?

On a side note, what is a good alternative in about 2-7 or so? Want to stay on the good side of 300 bucks. Will probably not shoot past 200 yds.

I haven't heard anything specific, but it does seem that the Elite 4200 1.5x-6x are hard to find.  Unfortunately, the Elite 4200s don't come in the next magnification level of 2x-7x.  Instead, they jump up to 2.5x-10x.  I know that you  can get an Elite 3200 in 1.5x-4x, but the glass in the 3200 (while good), is not as good as the glass in the 4200s.

You  should take a look at the Nikon Monarchs.  I know for sure that they come in a 2x-7x, and maybe even a smaller magnification like you want.  IMHO, the Nikon Monarch glass is probably better than the Elite 4200 glass.

Part of the difference between the 3200 and the 4200 is the erector in a 4200 is a 4 to1, and the 3200 is a 3 to 1. That's the reason for the difference in available power ranges between the two of them. I just bought a closeout 1.5 to 6X38 from Natchez for $229.95 which is $150.00 off their reg. price. It may be back in the line-up with a "fast focus" model. The eyepiece on mine is the old lock ring and adjust the eyepiece style that's been around for years. The "fast focus" has been used on the Bushnell Trophy and Banner models, and I believe they're going to up-grade the 4200's to it. The directions that came with my scope showed how to adjust either style. The website for the new? ones lists the "fast focus" only. That's what makes me think it'll be back, if in fact it ever was discontinued, or just up-graded.

Since you check out scopes on ebay,a very good alternative and my favorite is the redfield widefield in 2-7 which I have on all my rifles.Try and get one with the oblong lens on both ends, and they usually go between $75-$150 or so.Check out the seller good and I've got a few that were bargains and are close to new.Oh welcome to GBO paleface!

Thanks for the welcome. Lots of tips and good advice on this forum.

There is a redfield wide scope down at the local gun/pawn shop. I will give it a better looking over. Don't know what power it is. It is old however, and from what I have read here the old ones are the good ones. He also has an old leopold vxii beat up pretty bad he has a 250 price tag on. Way too proud of that one. Might make it down there this weekend.  I appreciate the advise, and could stand to save a few pennies.

Regarding the old redfield widefield scope, if I buy it and need service down the road, do they still service them? Does anybody know what the warranties were?
