Les I have the Redhawk 5.5 in a 44, and the Taurus m44/ 8.5 barrel. The Taurus comes ported and rubber gripped It shoots fine, as good as a Super BlackHawk I have. Recoil is about the same to me shooting 240 grn fact loads. The Redhawk is the real winner. I have put pac. grips on it lightened the double action, but the recoil is stout for me with full loads. If it were not for having the other two I would have had Mag Port work on it. The Taurs is a fine double action for the money and not much you need to do to it.

I have a friend that just got a Taurus 44 with the 6in barrel.  If I was going to buy a 44 it would be that same gun.  4in is just too short the 8in would be nice but the 6in carries, looks, and feels great!

I just ordered a Taurus Raging Bull in 480 and went with the 8 3/8 barrel.  I will be using it most for hunting and like the weight and length of this large caliber.

We've put quite a few heavy loads through a friends M44 6.5" Taurus - heavy as in 300 gr @ 1,400 fps (over the Chrony). No problems yet, except the ejector rod tended to work itself loose, a pair of pliers and a drop of loctite took care of that problem. I'd expect it to last a very long time on a diet of 240 gr loads.

In my hands it feels like the Taurus with Hogues has a shorter reach to the trigger (double action) than the Redhawk. That could be an issue since you say you have small hands.

The 4" M44 does look good, doesn't it? http://www.taurususa.com/products/product-details.cfm?model=44B4&category=Revolver

had the regular Redhawk .44 mag for several years, unloaded it in a swap for a TC.  Have been carrying and hunting with and dispatching trapped feral hogs also with the Taurus 6.5" .44 and like the other post said, the ejector rod tends to work loose a bit after a bunch of rounds,  but the gun has withstood alot of abuse and still shoots fine.  I have fired a ton of factory ammo in 240gr several different brands and some 300 gr handloads, both mine and some Graybeard loaded.  The taurus is a fine revolver, ports work well, and the grips are great.  The stainless finish is a bit too shiney but still looks good after several years of riding in a western cross draw style holster and hunting in all kinds of weather.  it will be making the trip to Colorado this Sep.

Not sure if the Taurus is more accurate than the Ruger,  but atleast for me the much better trigger of the Taurus made it alot easier to shoot, and to shoot more accurately.
