Charles Daly 45 questions
« on: September 09, 2007, 05:10:37 AM »
I have had a Daly 45 for a couple of years now and feel it was a very good buy for the money. It had alway shot very well, but now a problem as popped up. I have been keeping 6 rounds in both mags and using it as a home defence weapon. My problem is that the last time I did some practice, both mags stovepiped on the 5th round, after reloading both mags, again they stovepiped on the 5 round. Are the mag springs becomming weak while being stored with 6 rounds? Will a better brand of mags fix this problem? Colt mags? or another brand? My friends say I should give up on autos as defence guns and stick with revolvers. Any ideas on my stovepipe problem? Any coments on the Daly 45 in general?
Thanks,Bill  Ossipee,NH

Could be magazines, could be ammo, could be dirt/lint, could be a combination of both. How long has it been since it has been thoroughly cleaned and what are you using for ammo????

Stovepipe jams usually occur when the slide fails to go all the way to the rear.  When this happens (does not go far enough to the rear to pick up the case rim of the next round in the magazine and chamber the cartridge properly-  it comes forward into battery picks up the next round in the magazine about midway along the length of its case and forces it into the 'stovepipe' position.

The first thing I would do, if you have not already done this is to clean the gun and the magazines thoroughly.  Make certain you are using new ammo to test the functioning of this pistol.  If she still stovepipes on you then go for a couple of new magazines.  The Chip Mccormick 8 round magazines work very well for me and have not failed.

Good luck - let us know what happens.  Mikey.
