Tracker II problem
« on: September 09, 2007, 10:32:59 AM »
I took my Tracker II to the range today with some Remington Slugger 2 3/4 inch slugs.  I fired two slugs, and each round caused the action to break open.    Has anyone else had this occur to them?  I had no  problems with the Sluggers in my Mossberg.    Do the Remington slugs generate too much pressure for my Tracker II?  It was fired with an SB1 receiver.

Assuming the frame and barrel are clean, the latch and shelf are clean and free of oil, most Pop opens are usually caused by not closing the action with enough force, especially when new, if you have an owner's manual, it mentions that. If it still pops open after addressing those issues, it needs to go back to H&R for repair. Please read the Centerfire Handi basics 101 sticky, most of those tips apply to shotguns as well as rifles. ;)

I'm pretty sure slug gun loads are still limited to the same as shotgun pressure limits set by SAAMI, which in comparison to centerfire rifles is very low, so I wouldn't be concerned about that issue.

I have shot probably 40 or 50 in my 20 gauge Tracker II and the action does not come open. They are pretty darn accurate too.Funny, the sabot slugs weren't accurate at all in the Tracker II.

Years ago when the Rem. sluggers were first introduced I recall that you could not shoot them in Hastings barrels because there was too much of a size variation in the slugs.  This has been corrected and is no longer a problem with newer slugs though.

I believe it was the remington copper solids or corelok sabot that Hasting warned not to shoot from thier bbl not the sluggers. Kurt
