Scope/ sight mounting screw size

Can anybody help me with the correct screw size/ thread count for sight and scope mounting screws thats used on the Contender.

Just went through this problem pulled some threads in a full length sight mount . There is just one problem i can't remember if the screws were 6 by 40 or 8 by 40. I'm thinking it was 8 by 40. Gun shop just happened to have a tap to cure the problem. Hope this helps some.
