New Guy

Hi,

I'm new to these forums.

Presently I am not a crossbow owner but will be soon.  I hoping you will be able to help me make a good choice.  Crossbows are still illegal here in NY but that may change soon.  I have an opportunity to hunt in O' Canada where they are legal.  But finding a crossbow mentor around here is out of the question.

I have never bow hunted either so I am leaning toward an Excalibur recurve.  Not having the experience with compounds I fear I may not spot small problems before they become serious problems?  Does that sound like good logic?

I welcome all ideas and I look forward to visiting with you.

You cannot go wrong with an Excaliber they are one of the most highly rated xbows out there for hunting and target. I agree Simple is better and while I am not knocking the Compounds they do have more to check for upkeep and if you want to restring them you need a bow press or take in to a shop. With the Excaliber a 20 dollar stringer will let you change your own strings anywhere you need to even in the field. Plus I think a recurve is less noisy too. I think you will be making a wise choice if you go with an Excaliber. Any Questions call Dan Milller He is the US rep for Excaliber and will answer any questions you may have. His number is Dan Miller 740-483-2312 Horizontal Archery.

Dan is a super nice guy and will give you all the help and advice you need.  Jim
