Recoil Pads
« on: September 11, 2007, 10:51:04 AM »
The recoil pad on my new .270 mountain rifle seems a bit soft. This rifle will stomp the crap outta ya. Has anyone had to replace theirs and what are the good ones out there.

You GOT TO BE KIDDING? A .270 stomping the crap outta ya? I need shoulder surgery in the worst way and am extremely recoil sensitive as a result. Factory 20s are too much for it so I mostly shoot the .410 and 28 gauge at skeet due to my shoulder. But my .270 Mtn. Rifle isn't a real problem. Now admittedly any time I shoot on the range I use a PAST recoil shield the 1/2" thick magnum one. But hunting it's not even noticeable to me.

The new R3 pads Remington is using now are from Simms Vibration Lab and in my opinion are THE BEST made today at reducing recoil.

Bottom line if you think it's too much with that pad then changing sure ain't gonna help it's only gonna hurt. Use a pad between your shoulder and it on the range and when hunting you'll never know it kicked at all. But really the recoil of a .270 is quite mild as centerfire rifles go.

a 270. and a sims. i don't have any recoil out of my 30.06 without a sims. if its that bad look into a pad like graybeard said. also look into a Caldwell lead sled or any other like it. it will reduce recoil at the range and it would be a good rest. but as far as hunting you won't notice it shooting at game.
