.204 Ruger (or .223) with reduced load - Anyone done this?
« on: September 12, 2007, 06:10:34 AM »
Posted this on the reloading forum with little response, and since I own a handi and know a lot of handiholics reload, thought I'd try here.

I bought some Alliant Blue Dot powder to make some reduced loads mentioned from this site:  http://www.jamescalhoon.com/
(after going to this site click on "Informative Articles" scroll down until you get to the article titled "To Bee, or 223 Revisited".)

Anyone try this yet?

Instead of doing this on the .223, I'm going to try it on my .204!!!

I use them in my 223 for fox and coyote! Getting about 2400 fps.

Great, thanks for the reply.

Are you using Blue Dot?  How many grains?  What grain of bullet?

I've been using 10grs blue dot in the 223 handi under 50gr hornady with great results.Just remember that whlie using blue dot for reduced velocity loads, that they are not reduced pressure loads, and like any max loads using any powder you must never try and push it by adding just one more grain or bad things wiil happen. That being said,I choose to use loads in the middle as thats what I wanted and have also use it in the 22-250.The loads match my full power ones accuracy at 100 yards and so far I have shot ground hogs out to 150 with no trouble.
So have fun,but be careful and safe!Let us know how itworks for you.
