Pet loads for .257 Roberts?

Insanity struck again yesterday:  I ordered a Ruger 77 Hawkeye in .257 Roberts.  I will pick it up over the weekend in Billings, MT.

This is a new cartridge for me.  What are your favorite handloads for deer and antelope?

Within the next 30 days I will have collected one of each with my new rifle.   That's when the serious elk hunting begins (Oct. 15) with my trusty .35 Whelen.

The .257 Roberts is a great little gun for deer and goats.  Congrats on your purchase.  You will enjoy it.

I have always used the Nosler Partition bullets in my .257's with excellent success on both deer and antelope.  The 100 & 115 gr. for antelope, and the 115-117 gr. for deer.

4350, 4831 and RL-19 powders have always worked the best for me.  Either IMR or Hodgdon versions work well in the 4350 & 4831.
Stay with standard primers, and work up loads as pr all the manuals say.

my two favorite bullets in the roberts are the sierra 100 and 117 flat based spitzters. I usually load the 117 around here because long shooting doesnt happen much up here anyway. Favorite powder would have to be imr4064

Congrats on a .257.  Gillette is right on, but in addition dig up a copy of Ken Water's Pet Loads and a couple of Handloader articles by John Barsness.  They are both enamored with the Roberts.
