I made one a few years back, It worked quite well. Accuracy was excellent which surprised me because of the long bullet jump to the rifling. I found it kind of a pain to use though because the extractor would only pull the adapter back. You still had to use a small screw driver to pop the case out. Bought a 22 barrel and am alot happier shooting it.  KN

.223 TO A .22 ADAPTER????

I have quite a few of these adapters for shooting 22LR, 22MAG, 22 Hornet, etc. in several larger cases - mine were made many, many years ago by the first guy to do them (name slips me at the moment), are made from actual barrel blanks or brass stock, and long before MCA or EABCO jumped on the wagon (I believe MCA Alaska took over the original business - 3rd in line).   OK for plinking I guess, but precision will depend entirely on the barrel being shot in.    The larger the case (ie, 22-250), the worse it gets with the 22LR's due to the long jump to the rifling.   Out of all of mine, the 222 adapters seem to be the best, and of those, the ones made specifically for TC's are a little better than those made for the bolt guns (I guess due to the fewer moving parts).   I bought a bunch of them, but the novelty wore off very quick - now they reside in my cartridge collection.   I also have a collection of stainless adapters for shooting 22 cal pellets in several different chambers and powered only by primers - small pistol/rifle up to shotgun.   Just another novelty item.   HTH     Ladobe

Here's a pic of a few I took some time ago...   L to R: 22LR/222 TC steel, 22LR/223 rifle brass, 22LR/222 rifle brass, 22Hornet/222 TC steel, 22Hornet/22-250 TC steel, 22LR/22-250 rifle steel.   Bottom: 22 Pellet/22Hornet stainless, 22 Pellet/22-250 stainless.

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

i have one for my 223 barrel.  it will shoot as good as i can and i have used it to kill many vermin in my yard with cci 22 shorts.   i also have some agila 22 sub sonics which shoot ok.  i like the cci'sbetter because they are quieter.   i have made shots on red squirrels at 25 yards; they aint big and dont sit still long.  good enough for me.   besides,  what are they, $9?  i spend more on beer in a month.  i find my fingernail is easy enough to remove them with.   i can shoot them as fast as my 223 rounds.

I purchased one of those adapters about a year ago...converted my .222 to a .22 WMR.  Accuracy is excellent, BUT after opening the action one time, the case gave enough resistance to rip the rim off of the conversion case.  I have no idea why this happenned.  I believe that the case is made out of light steel, and the rim just did not take it.  I now have a rimless .222 - .22 WMR case.  It should still be useable, but will not be able to be ejected easily.  I really liked the concept, and would buy another, but they seem quite hard to find.
How'd you like a peek at my 14-incher? (Contender, that is)

Just ordered a .223 to .22 chamber adapter for Encore (built-in CF to RF conversion) from E. Arthur Brown for $20 as part of their Prarie Sniper sale. Actually, I just wanted the cool Prarie Sniper patch to iron on to a T-Shirt
