Barska scopes
« on: September 14, 2007, 11:36:36 AM »
Anyone own a Barska?  Are they Chinese?  Do they compare to say a Tasco or Bushnell banner? or are they better?  I really like the German reticle and it  has only available in the very expense scopes.Any thoughts appreciated..

Don't we all, they could offer the 2-7x without illumination too. ;)

I have a 4x illuminated that I bought with rings for my .22 for $29.  I am surprisingly happy with it.  I don't know if they will hold up to a pounding but I figured if I was going to by a cheap scope it should be a fixed power.  Less parts to go bad.

Here my Barska 4X IR on the 10-22 I built up from leftover stuff.  So far it seems ok.  The adjustments aren't very crisp, but they do work.

PRC products aren't all bad, Muellers are made there and they have an excellent reputation. My experience with the one Barska I tried isn't good, stuck it in the freezer for a while, then immersed it in warm water, a steady stream of bubbles poured out of the lens seal, not a good sign. :'(

If you buy a Barska I am willing to bet sooner or later you will make a post that your rifle just is not as accurate as it used to be, then you will figure out your rifle is just fine!

Hair trigger,  I think you may be right as I have had that exact problem with 2 Leupolds,  1 Pentax,  2 Burris and a Nikon.  I had never had a Barska  scope and I thought I would try one to see how it would hold up.

I just had, what you talking about happen to me.  I had about 3 years ago put on a cheap NC Star pistol scope on my S&W 44 Mag.  I think the scope cost me maybe $50 and after 3 years and about maybe 800 rounds, that cheap NC Star broke on me yesterday. Since I had taken 6 hogs and 3 deer with that scope and gun combo, I am having a tough time deciding, do I spend another $50 for a cheap scope and hope to get 2-3 years or do I spend $250 for a Leupold. The one thing that I keep in mind is on the cheaper scopes, when it screws up I will just throw it away. And when a Leupold messes up I will have to send it off to get repaired because of the cost of the scope. Only problem is last time Leupold took 9 weeks to return my scope. But again I agree with you about the cheaper scopes

I have had the same with a Burris.
The only difference is that with Leupold or burris you send the scope in for a free repair, the cheep scopes you throw away.
NCStar is warranted, is it not?

I don't know if NCStar has a warranty or not, I believe it has but I think the best think to do with a cheap scope is to throw it away once it starts giving you problems. That's what I am going to do. But again I may buy another NCstar and try. I am thinking about a Bushnell Elite.

I was given a NCStar scope and I put it on a rifle with the best intentions but it is a rifle I never shoot.
What I do is shop for a deal on a used, good scope with a warranty rather than buy a cheep scope.

"I am thinking about a Bushnell Elite."

You can't buy a better scope IMO.

Nikon Buckmasters!!
