It looks like Mac has stepped up to the plate and has offered to help out in the planning of this event. He lives in MO and would be held there. We are shooting for next spring. Please sign up here so we can have an idea of the turn out of people.   Dale

I think you're getting the cart before the horse here so to speak. Before you go asking for attendees you need to have:

1. A venue
2. A date
3. An agenda

Folks need to know specific details on where an event is to take place when that event is to take place and in some fairly specific terms what the event is to consist of. I tend to think that with hunting seasons already upon most everyone trying to set the date this year is dooming it to failure but that's you guy's call. Most need more planning time than that and doing it during hunting season unless a hunting specific event is a losing battle.

When asking in general terms as this does who wants to come you'll find from my experience with these things in the past that at best 25% to 50% of those saying I'll be there as if it's fact will show up when the date actually arrives. Having an interest post like this is good but once the specifics are ironed out and a date, time, place set then you need to make an official list of attendees as I do with the PD shoot annual. If attendance is limited (and most events do have limitations on such things even if the number is in the thousands) you'll need to set that limit and put the names down in order they sign up and then have a separate back up list that folks can be moved from to the main list as folks cancel on you and there will be cancellations you can only hope they let you know in time to let someone else know in time to attend.

Does anyone as of yet have the three specifics I've listed above identified?

It's a lot of work Dale. You would have to find a venue, secure it. Then see what the accomodation situation is. After that there would be solidifying the actual number with buffer contingencies. When all is said and done, there is a reason that large events tend to be done over long periods of time or by pros.
It ends up being full blown logistical exercise. It's not like getting a half dozen guys to meet you at the range.
I would definitely recommend making a "ghost outline" and the see the interest level and go from there. I also highly recommend getting deposits. It's harder to back out of something once money has changed hands.

I have Strong interest but as GB say need specifics other ideas might be to try and have it in conjunction with some local event unless you can get exclusive use of a range. I would be there as long as the dates jive with life. Kurt

I would like to attend. I need to know the dates, so I can put for it in advance. I have plenty of time to take yet this year (but need to know soon) and have oodles (for me) next year. I want to do some shooting, but even more I would like to talk to some of the fine fellows that frequent GBO face to face and swap tricks and talk guns ;)

Just as an idea to support what GB said, I start bidding (yes it's competitive) October 1, at work, for EVERY day off I plan for the year of 2008.  Now lets see some of you guys figure out in Oct, everything you plan on doing and everywhere you plan on going for all of next year.

I have to bid for specific days, not just generalization.  I realize mine is an extreme case, but it's also why I don't hunt much or apply for special hunts.  I never know till it's too late if I can get the time off.  I'm forced to retire in 18 months and have never looked forward to anything more.  Time will be MINE!

Anyway, I'd love to attend something like this with you guys, but I doubt it could happen.

I checked with the President of the club here...Spring would be very difficult to get...they have many formal bench rest matches being held...Something in late June or July may be possible...if a consensus of the numbers attending and how much range time is going to be needed...could be finalized prior to the board meeting in mid November...this is when the next years schedule is drafted and voted on...They have 2 separate ranges available...they have a 20 bench 300 yard...and a 60 bench 600 yard course...They also have water & electric hook ups available for $10.00 a night...without utilities...would be free...This I know...If we are talking 100-200 people showing up...there would be a 1 time donation to the club for utilities being used...which would have to be collected and paid to the club in advance...and the amount would be dependent on the total number attending......There are other issues which would have to be worked out...but...we can cross that bridge if we get there...

Mac all sounds good to me. The 600 yard range even sounds great. Late June or July also sounds fine for me. I wonder about the one time donation though. Would you expect it to be 5 or 10 dollars a person. Something like that. Dale

It will depend on the total number of people being there...While the club is a non-profit organization...they still have monetary obligations to fulfill and expenses for upkeep...

Yeah, missouri isn't too far from Chicago, If you can get more info I would have a better idea whether or not I could attend. Sounds like a good time though and I would like the opportunity to meet some fellow members in person.

With out a number on how many is going to attend...there really isn't anyway I can make a presentation to ask for a reservation...The club I belong to has a busy schedule with all of the different events taking place there...Mid November is rapidly approaching...and if it is wanted here...then folks will need to decide...or another place will have to be agreed on...I've done all I can with what I know... The board meets next month and plans the next years schedule..
