It's all good, guys.  No harm has been done here and a bunch of information has been obtained - and I thank you all!!  So - here are a couple of questions for those that know - First - what are the two small set screws on the right side of the barrel opposite the 'chamber'.  Second - the very back end of the barrel - it's knurled so you can take it apart for cleaning and inspection.  That only gets "finger tightened" - correct?

Thanks again (and many thanks to come, I'm sure).

That's for a receiver sight! Like a Williams FP, or Lyman SME 57!

SM's another one of the fishy thingys! OPPS! Caught another one! ;D Fishing sure is good tonight! 8)

Zara Puppy, don't start off weighing your powder charges, you will put too much powder in that way, you need to buy a powder measure, Black powder and all BP substitutes measure by volume not weight. You can weigh a volume of powder then weigh it, you will find the volume will weigh less than the measure says. As an example a 70 grain volume charge may only weigh 55 grains. Also consider Triple 7 powde, it is cleaner than pyrodex and much less corrosive.

Yeah - I've got powder measures too.  Lee's I believe (it's been a while since I've loaded some .44's).  I'll use them for volume, then weigh the charge.  When loading for the Redhawk I always did it that way.  Then after a while I stopped weighing each charge then only weighed about 1 out of 10 - just wanted to be sure everything was right.  Gunpowder + Pressure + Carelessness = bad things.

Weighing charges is a waste of time.  Use a volume measure.  If you want best accuracy and easy clean up, get some 3F GOEX.

Don't use those measures, they are for smokless powder, you need a measure made for blackpowder only.

ZP, Congrats on a great buy. I have 3 Whites myself. Start at 70 grains of powder when you work up your load, those big conicals don't need alot of powder. Also I like to use a wool wad between the bullet and the powder (I get better accuracy with them). As far as powder I prefer Swiss 3f but T7 3f works well also. Good luck.

Its unlikely you'll ever have anything break,  but if you do,  them rifles are engineered so that any halfassed gunsmith or machinist can make every part in it very easily.  If power, simplicity, and accuracy are things you like in a muzzleloader, then  you're going to be happy with your new gun.

zarra!

You don't have to use pyro. Trip 7 fffg would do a good job! Fact is Whites will just about shoot any powders. Well thinking about matters, Whites will shoot all bullets, conicals, sabots, and power belts with good accuracy.

Like the chief said, SHOOT THE FOOL OUT OF THE WHITE! ;D

You'll feel better after! 8)

I don't believe I said they were junk in my post. ::)

Though I do know people who owned them and have gotten rid of them.
Wolfhound- I also know many people who have owned many other brands of muzzleloaders and have gotten rid of them too.Myself included until 14 years ago finding a BN White in my friends gunshop.I traded a TC that was a good shooter for the White and have NEVER looked back.It shoots big conical bullets into MOA and has killed too many deer to remember, so its like everything else we buy, some like them and some don't.But I will venture to say, the ones who have them DON"T get rid of them.On all the hunting forums I frequent, never see many shooters who are having any problems with their Whites, can't say the same on all the other manufactures though.Guess its safe to say, I am a DWB and have been for many years and theres nothing being made to date that would have me not holding my White  on opening day for deer.

Heck of a deal ZP!! 8)

I will admit up until last year I was one of the doubters of the White Rifles.  I owned several TC rifles over the years, but was not "completely" satisfied for one reason or another, cleaning between shots being the biggest.  I bought a .451 Super 91 spring 2006 and after shooting that rifle I was hooked, big time.  I now also own a .504 Super 91, I prefer the 24" barrels and longer stocks.  My Whites are both shooters and will never be sold, just passed down to my sons when I can't carry them any longer.  I did think ahead and bought a spare #11 breechplug, hammer and hammer rod, and Bold trigger which I can use in either one of my rifles.

I only own two TC's now,.54 Renegade and the Encore, which I still like so far, but its a sabot shooting rifle and has killed several deer for me in the past.  After shooting the Whites I must say I prefer them over the Encore, if nothing else just for the ease of cleaning.  It took me forever to find a load the Encore liked, but I finally did after much cost.  The Whites have been more economical too as it didn't take long to get a accurate load with only 70-80 gr. of powder.

I killed two bucks last year with the .451 and hopefully will make some more meat with the .504 when I take it into the deer woods for the first time this season.

I'm a DWB lifer for sure!! ;D

I finally did shoot the white - 9 times and never swabbed it between shots.  The last bullet went down the barrel with just one finger on the end of the rod.  Was shooting the 430 grain bullets that came with it.  My hunting partner was laughing his butt of when I pulled the trigger.  He said both me and the bench moved back 6 inches.  It was a blast.  I've taken the ultra dot off the Ruger Mark II Comp and put it on the white.  I haven't shot that combination yet, but I'm going too!  Does anybody know whether or not the ultra dot will hold up?
