742 scope base mount
« on: September 18, 2007, 04:39:12 AM »
I am looking for scope mounts for 742 which doesn't require shims.  I have one that shoots up hill at 100 yards.  There is a big difference in rise when going from 30 to 100 yards.

I have talked with a gunsmith he says the cheap mounts are the problem.  I have in the past found no shim mounts.  I can't locate now.

Try Leupold bases and rings, they are worth the money. Check Brownells web-site, i know they have them.

I agree with using Leupold. I have two 742's, (Rifle, and Carbine) both with Leupold bases, and rings. No shimming required. I also used in the past, on another 742 I have since sold, a Redfield J R base, with Redfield rings. This setup is almost identicle to the Leupold Standard base and rings. No shimming on this one either. These 742's all/were .30-06.
