That's what makes you so tough Lloyd.   I bet you did have some fun.  I think after a marathon session with a couple of 500's I'd be shooting a .22 to see if i was blinking...hahaha!

Never took one to the forehead YET but those single actions bring blood from the hammer on my shooting hand often when I try to hot load them. For me that level is way below what it takes for you Lloyd but I do know the feeling. I reckon that's what band-aids are for.

Heck I get jumpy after a 100 rounds of heavy 45 colt ammo! I have never hit my forehead but I have gotten jumpy enough to hit the ground 6 to 8 feet below the target at 100 yards though. I bet it would take a lot less rounds from a 500! I guess a man has got to know his limitations.

fowler the cure for your jumpyness with the 45 is to shoot the 500 first. After i shot the 500s the other day i took out my 45 bisley and shot a bunch with 300s at 1200 and it felt like a 44 special to shoot.

The trick seems to be to try to remember what gun you are shooting and what kind of load you have in it.
In the mean time...bring on the band-aids ;D

Yea I know the old trick that to make my 338 rifle manageable to shoot I needed to shoot my uncles 450NE for few rounds! The only hitch in the giddy up of your theory is I don't own anything bigger than my 45colt! And with a new baby due in less than 2 months I see it being a while before that changes! Wanna loan me that octagon barreled 500 and a mold for a few years? I promise to try and wear it out from the inside out! ;D

Besides obviously you hurt yourself too much with that sexy beast to be trusted with it anymore!

no pain no gain.. "bandaids, aspirin, shooting gloves, hardhat, hearing protection ..)
Fowler, you still offering to wear out those big guns? Now listen Young 'un..they will definitely jump out of your hands when you got johnson's baby oil gel on them from your paternal duties... or something else...you better just wait on those things for a while... Uncle Lloyd has room on his head for a few more dings and dents afore he gets too beat up.
and anyway he was just getting ready to shoot his little 45, that is all...

Lloyd : i been doing it all wrong -- again.. I was shooting the little guns first then working up to the bigger bang theory.. My Bad... I got it now... start big ...work down for comfort and control...

problem is that a guy needs both of them. When i practice my fast shooting cowboy action shooting the barrel gets to hot if i just use one and i have to switch back and forth. Plus a quickdraw of both of them from a double rig is quite a sight!!

Need is a little subjective. We all passed need after our first 22 rifle, 30/06, and good 12 gauge and first big bore revolver. After that is all wants and that is a whole lot better. I would love to see LLoyd walk up to the line at a SASS shoot with his 4" Biqueros with 425gr loads at 1100 and watch everyone's eyes pop out of their heads as he knocks over the plate racks!

Seriously having seen and kept pics of both of those guns, is one better than the other really? I mean the sights are different, the grips are different, and so on. How do they behave differently? For the record when Dustin put the drift from sight on my 45 colt Bisley Vaquero I told him to copy your front sight from that 500 and we even did the 2 gold bars for good measure. I like it a lot! I just need to get out and shoot it a bunch now. I probably only have 500 rounds through it this summer and I really wanted 1500 to 2000 before hunting season.

Is it worse than a 16" 45/70 on a Contender handgun frame? That's a thump-er for sure.

I had a super 14 in 4570 years ago and have a contendor carbine cut to 18 inch right now. They definately will get your attention but id have to say that loaded up to the max of what the gun will take the 4 inch 500s are heavier recoiling. That might change if a guy had an encore and loaded it to what it would take. One of the worse kicking guns i ever shot was Kelly Brosts encore in 458 lott second was cannon watts 500 max with 500 grain bullets . If those two guns wont get your attention NOTHING WILL. I know a 450 at 13-14oo fps out of a 4 inch barrel is plenty for this guy.
