100 grainers in 243 Handi

Has any one been able to get 100 grain bullets to shoot well in a Handi. In my son's Handi, 80 gr. bullets are sub moa without much effort. Federal premium factory loads(100 gr partitions) and the same bullet plus Hornady interlocks over both IMR 4350 and H414 never get better than 3-4" groups.

Even my 243 Superlight will shoot the 100gr Speer with H4895 real good, my Ultra Varmint shoots the Federal Power Shok 100gr and Fusion 95gr inside an inch. Try the cheaper Federal ammo, it's real popular in 243 H&Rs, none of mine like the Premium Federal ammo, not yet anyway.

YUP!!

 Mine shoots the 100 GR Hornady's in spitzer and round nose into just about an inch @ 100!! Don't remember the load off the top of my head. but 4350 is a favorite of mine in this caliber.

If you are using for deer sized game and don't have any luck with the 100grs...Try the 85gr Sierra HPBT, it works well on deer...

The Federal Fusion 95 grainers have been the most consistent tight grouping rounds that I've used.

100 grain Core-lokts have shot pretty good also, but the Fusion 95 have been the best by far within an inch, inch and a half, from my barrel!

If you reload, I have found the Hornady sst 95gr groups really well in my Superlight

with 80  grain bullets giving sub-moa in this rifle, what would you think about trying Nosler 85 gr. partitions.

I'm sure the Partitions will work, if you don't mind paying more for similar performance...If you are concerned about the performance of the 85gr Sierra HPBT...I was concerned as well, until I killed 3-4 deer with, have killed about 30 with so far, it does as well as a 100gr CoreLokt, I have killed about 80 with that, so I know what a heavier bullet  will do as well...

What most folks don't know...in the Sierra HPs, except in the .22 varmint bullets, the HPs have a heavier jacket than their soft points so they actually give more penetration...Call the Sierra bullet smiths and tell them some idiot on the internet was trying to tell you to deer hunt with their hollow point bullet, see what they tell you..... :D

i agree with flintlock!! i have taken 30+ whitetail thru the years. most with a 243 shooting sierra 85 gr.hpbt.and 1mr4895 powder. every rifle is different but if you can find a charge 0f 4895 with that bullet that your rifle likes you are set for anything! i used that combo on yotes,groundhogs, and about ever thing else fit to shoot at in these old hills!!

  Hi Concrete,

 I have a Handi in .243. Keep in mind that min is an SB2 Ultra barrel. Try this load. IMR 4064 behind a 100 gr Hornady Interlock Part number 2453. Seated .010 off the lands. Mine likes 35 gr. and will shoot 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards. If you reload start at 34 g up to 36g in 1/2 g increments.
Might be just what you are looking for. Just a thought.

handi 243 twist rate is 1:10 / the 100gr bullet is a little long and needs 1:9 twist to stabilize. Sierra claims the 1:10 twist limits your max bullet weight to 90gr / of course some barrels will do fine with 100gr.. you don't know until you try. My 243 handi is doing well with cheap bulk remington 80gr. the only problem is the bullet weights vary 1.0 gr out of the same box. I'm looking for some 80-90gr bullets with more consistent weight

I shot this load today: 100gr Sierra Pro Hunter, 39.1 gr IMR 4350 ~2680 fps. It didn't group very well.

What would be considered a mild load for this bullet/powder combo? What about other powders with this bullet? I need to tell my reloader what works for people on the net so I can give it a try. The rifle is a 243 ultra youth.

I posted a proven load for the Superlight 243 on the 19th, it's right outa Hodgdon's data. ;) They use Win brass and primer, I used Rem brass and 9½ primer, loaded .010" off the lands.

You might want to try some of the 95 grain bullets...I have had real good luck with the Combined Technologies 95gr. Silver Ballistic tips and Reloader 22...same for the 95 grain Partitions...but they are getting kinda of pricey now...
