Big 5 Marlin 1894 rifles
« on: September 19, 2007, 05:29:29 PM »
Has anyone else looked at these rifles?  I looked at a couple of them and they appear to be the cowboy rifles except the barrel is round, but the stock is the same uncheckered version.  Does anyone have any experience with these rifles and how well they're made?  The guy that orders my guns for me looked for an 1894C 357 Mag for me and all 3 of his distributors were sold out, so I'm thinking of purchasing of the Big 5 rifles or maybe a Puma.  I would appreciate any info you can give?

thanks,
Ken

Usually the only difference with Big Five rifles, is the stock is usually cheaper wood.  Maybe a round barrel as you mentioned but never noticed that before.

A couple years ago, I bought a Win 94 Trapper in 44 mag from a gun shop.  A friend bought a Win 94 in .357 from Big 5.  The wood was the only difference.

If you're wanting a Marlin 1894 and they have them and you like it's looks, I
d say get one and don't worry.  If all else fails call Marlin and ask them.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

I purchased an 1894c last summer from Big-5. The stock is plain and have had no issues or malfunctions with it. Open sighted (after installing FP peep and sourdough front post) at 50 yards, it groups nice. A plain Jane is what I wanted in this type of lever. -g

I have both the Puma and the 1894 Marlin .

The Puma was a little higher , IIRC .  It is also " prettier " .

The Marlin is easier to scope or put a peep sight on .  I have a Williams FP peep sight ordered for a 1895 .45-70 .  Suspose to mount on the rear 2 scope base holes .  As such I think it will mount on all the marlins ?

You pays your money and you makes your choices .

God bless

I prefer the walnut stock on the Marlin over the whatever it is stock on the Puma.  I also feel the workmanship on the Marlin is much better than the Puma.
