question about going from a rifle to pistol
« on: September 20, 2007, 03:15:56 AM »
I have a encore 15inch pistol I am thinking about adding a 1 1/2 muzzle brake to it, I know that I'll be able to put a stock and forearm on it to make it into a rifle then. My question is Is it legal to have a pistol barrell at this length  or Do I have to keep it a rifle after I put the muzzlebrake on.

In the US there is no maximum barrel length for handguns as far as the Feds go. But some states I believe do have restrictions and you'll have to be sure you're legal locally but as far as federal law is concerned you'll be OK. Just make sure that the addition is PERMANENT so as to stay legal on the rifle end.

I live in KY and I was planning on sending it to SSK to have a permanent muzzlebrake put on it.
