Kimber Model 84M...???
« on: September 22, 2007, 04:49:06 AM »
I was looking at a Kimber 84M the other day and fell in love with the little thing.  I did seem a little pricey though.  I guess the main question I have is,  "Is it worth the extra money?"

The Classic is going for a sug. retail of $1055. and the Montana is going for about 200 more.  It really shoulders nice and just plain feels good in my arms.  The one I was looking at was in the new 338 Federal.

Any folks out there have any first hand experiences with this gun?  Thanks

One of my buddies has a montana in .308 and loves it. It is very light and shoots plenty good to kill a deer. As with any light gun with a thin barrel it isn't a tack driver but all things considered it's a nice rifle. Something about the grip doesn't feel right to me though. It seems like it is almost too straight? Maybe it's me.

I have a 7-08 Montana and I love it. When  I put a scope on the rifle the "yard stick" feeling went away. I have owned many rifles during my life and I have sold and traded many but the Kimber Montana is a keeper. I will probably buy the 270wsm in the Montana this year. I have the classic as well but I prefer the Montana.

I have the Montana in .308 w/Ziess Conquest 3X9. Mine fits me and shoots great, MOA @ 100 no problem every time IF I don't shoot the barrel hot. Heat causes my groups to open up, and the thin barrel heats up quick, but for hunting deer it is the ideal rifle under my circumstances. I think I paid about $975 for the rifle 3 years ago if memory serves.

Well I broke down and got that Kimber I was eyeballing.  It is a Classic model in .338 Federal.  I went to Bass Pro Shop and bought a Leupold XVII scope in 3x9 - 40m.  I am in the process of ordering a set of dies for it from Midway.  I see that there is no brass available for it, so I think I will have to make my own from .308 brass.

I tried to buy some commercial ammo, but none available.  I can't wait to shot this beauty.  Will let all know how it goes when I come back from the range.
