i got the rust blues
« on: September 22, 2007, 05:22:01 AM »
i just got a used handi in rough condition. there's a small amount of rust in the bore. after many passes with a bronze brush and solvent it is minimized, but still visible. any thoughts from you all would be appreciated. thanks, dinger

Bore paste or try a couple of passes of OO Fine steel wool with lots of oil and then Flitz. Make sure to insert the steel wool from the breach end only.

thanks for the tip. i did some reading on-line and found out that  automotive rubbing compound can be used, carefully, as a bore paste. also it can be used in brass polishing media to shine cases. that's when the lights came on! i used Frankford Arsenal brass polish on a bronze brush for 30 back and forth strokes. rust is gone. thanks again McLernon.
