Try it! After about 10 shots,,,see how it does.  ;) Just be careful not to get any grease inside the flash channel.

There are no stupid questions when it comes to muzzleloading.  8) That's what this forum is for...... ;) Lots of folks to help you out.

You can try all kinds of grease, but using Teflon tape on the plug is the best choice I've found, I've tried many kinds of grease, including anti-seize, the tape works, the grease doesn't. ;)

I've used Sabotloaders system for a few years now. Works great! I also use bullet lube on top of the tape. Haven't had one stick in ages....

Most problem out there is people over tightening their breech  plug. I just "finger" tighten mine and it will break loose easily after a day of shooting. I use cva breech plug grease.  Tried the tape thingy but it was a PITA trying to get all the stuff out of the threads in the barrel.

I use a TC breech brush to clean the tape out, works pretty good, but most of it sticks to the plug so there isn't alot in the barrel. I've only used the pink TC tape, others may be cheaper, but may be harder to clean off too. :-\

Cut that loop off the end of that brush,,,and chuck it up in your cordless drill. Spray, or dip the brush in your cleaner of choice. Makes the job of getting tape and crud out of the breech threads simple.  ;)

Same here.   Never any problems.  Never tried tape - guess I'll have to just to see for myself.

I recently tried the tape method and did not find it as good as the auto antiseize. I find the antiseize a bit of a mess but I have never had a BP get stuck with it finger tight, even after 30+ shots using 777 powder and waiting till I get home to remove it. With the tape the plug had to be unscrewed almost all the way out with the wrench, not real tight but couldn't use finger pressure. With the antiseize I use the wrench for at most 1 turn then can unscrew with my fingers. Works for me.

I shot 32 rounds yesterday with T-7, finishing up around 4 p.m.   Cleaned the barrel with Butch's Black Powder Bore Shine with three wet patches before I left the range, but did not touch the breech plug.  Today at 3 p.m. I pulled the plug to do a thorough cleaning.  It came out as though I had just put it in.  It was installed finger tight with CVA anti-seize.

I have been taping for years now, actually Underclocked started me taping and from there I have made some refinements.  But the point here is I would like to disagree with the "finger tight" or "back-off a 1/4 turn theory."  Those two theories might be the best method with grease but for tape I do snug it up - not tight - but snug enough that the tape is squeezed between the face of the BP and the rear contact flange in the barrel.

The real key for me is the tape over the nose of the breech plug - this is where the blow-back seal should occur - therefore the plug must be snug.

This was written along time ago in response to a question - use what applies to you..

SL, ya know you is mah buddy and I respect what you say, but the last time I tried that method, I had to use a cheater bar.  Must have done something wrong.

Now I use wide white teflon tape.  Then apply some Slick 50 "One Grease".  Backed off just a little.

That also came from Underclocked.  Amazing how much of this "stuff" came from that guy!!!!!

That really is strange since you and I shoot the same gun... I have never had a problem with the White BP.  And you know when I go shoot I shoot a lot and I never screw with the BP until get home to clean it or even until after the season.  Gotta look I can not remember which tape I use on the White - but I think it is pink (white tape on the A&H for sure - pink on the Remingtons for sure)

OK - I got it out - it is pink - white is to thin... + it was UC's recommend to snug the BP, which I was already doing....Gonna shoot it Sunday morning in the rock pit - what are you doing?

Prolly honey-do's.   >:(

Maybe/hopefully (doubtfully) driving to Oregon to look at a boat Saturday.

I have some pink tape and I agree, it would probably be much better in the White.  The "One Grease" does a good job though.

I've never used the auto anti-seize on a breech plug.  However, a few weeks ago I was changing spark plugs and needed something for the threads so I grabbed my tube of breech plug grease.  I've done this before and it has never created a problem.  You are most likely fine.
