My New Knight Wolverine
« on: September 22, 2007, 04:19:59 PM »
They had them at BassPro for $199.00.  It came with all kinds of cool stuff.  All you have to buy is powder and caps.  Im very impressed with the American made quality.

Taken a few with mine using Hornady 240 gr xtp. Need different peep sights on it now...can't see them well anymore. State of Minnesota does not allow scopes for black powder deer hunting season.

I'm currently using the Lyman Great Plains due to the very long barrel...I can see the sights on it for better than the Wolverine. Was a time I could take a shot at 100 yards with the Knight Wolverine and feel confident but no more.

This link shows the end of an 6 day hunt in 8" of fresh snow. It was a spectacular shot and I won't bother with the details but I was one happy hunter. The Wolverine is a good no frills black powder (with adjustable trigger). Got mine in stainless as you can see.

I did put a scope on it just to see the accuracy, boy did the primers due a number on the underside of the scope.

Nice picture!

The new Winchester Triple 7 primers produce almost no fouling, and better accuracy than most 209 primers.  I buy them at Walmart.

That's a good looking rifle...I've had good luck in my Disc with either 100grs Goex FFF or Pyrodex R-S and a 300gr Barnes all copper or
90 grains of the above and a 250 SST...Enjoy...

Every bullet I've shot through mine has shot extremely well.  I currently shoot the precision rifle 220 grain dead center bullet and 80 grains of 777 powder.  The bullets perform flawlessly and there is very little recoil.  I shoot the #11 cap, not the 209 primer.

I'd like to have the #11 cap breech plug for mine.  I have about 10 boxes of Remington #11 caps and nothing to use them on.  I think they are less than $30.00 from Knight.  I don't care for the red plastic 209 primer holders that I have to use with my current setup.

Funny thing is, I hated messing with caps, I like the Discs, it gives you something to put the cap in, I also reuse mine 3-4 times....

Funny thing is, I have never owned a percussion gun, have shot muzzleloaders since 1977, my others are flintlocks, don't have to mess with those tiny caps.

I shot it this weekend using 777 Pellets and Pyrodex RS.

With two 777 pellets and T/C CheapShots it was shooting 3" groups at 100 yards.  With loose Pyrodex it was a lot worse.  I'm going back to 3F Goex next time out.

I did find that a quick pass down the barrel with a Windex dampened t-shirt patch between shots left the barrel spotless, and I had no crud ring at all with the 777 when I finished shooting.

Finish clean up at home was practically nil.

Hey Swampman, can you remove the discs by hand after you shoot or does it require a tool? Shoot any conicals?  I was thinking about getting the same gun. Thnx Mike

No, removing the discs is a royal PI the A.  They give you a plastic tool for installing and removing them.  I was able to reuse the discs.  I think the rifle is an excellent value.

My wife uses a Wolverine, has for 7-8 years. The gun is very accurate with 80grs Pyrodex RS,and a 300gr XTP in the Knight green sabot. We converted it over to the 209 primer, two years ago,and last year it litterly poured rain during gun season, and she hunted all day, every day in it. The third day a buck showed up and Boom  ;D Meat for the table. The disc do work well sealing out moisture, but are a pita,at the range.

I will probably convert mine to a 209 breechplug or #11 caps.  Thanks for your input.

Not following the word "pita"

I have the shotgun primer conversion kit for my Wolverine too, just haven't tried it yet because I need to put diff sights on it.
