Questions on the CR carbine
« on: September 23, 2007, 04:39:07 AM »
With our new pistol cartridge deer season, here in Indiana, am thinking about one of these for my son, for deer season.  He has used a 20 ga. tracker II, since he was 11[he's 25 now].  I thought one of these might be great for him.  Some questions though.

1.  For those that have one, is the barrel tapped to accept a scope rail/scope?

2.  What factory loads seem to shoot best in them?

3.  What's the rate of twist on the barrel?

4.  What is the going price for one of them?

Thanks!

Mad Dog,

Like Stimpy said yes they are drilled and tapped and he gave you the twist.  And again like Stimpy I have not bought a factory round since I can remember.  I will say that it shoots very well and within any reasonable range will have a lot of thump.

I DO handload for my .45-70, but my son doesn't.  Not enough time to develop a load before our firearms deer season[its harvest time].   So that's why I'm looking for a good factory deer load, for this fall.

Can't help ya on the factory loads either, but a Lee die set can be had for $21-$31!! ;D Mine shoots real good with +P loads at a little over 1900fps with 250gr jacketed bullets, I'd try the hotter loads like Cor-bon or Buffalo bore. ;) Handloading for the Colt definitely has an advantage in that you can use the 250gr SST muzzleloader bullet to extend the effective range of the Colt to 175yds or so with no hold over and more that sufficient energy for deer at that range, maybe even a bit further, specially if the rifle is scoped.
