Tight extractor on 9mm barrel

I just acquired a 1997 Thompson Contender pistol with a custom 9mm barrel. The part of the extractor that engages the rim of the cartridge appears to be riding just a touch too high causing the fired case to be hard to pull out of the chamber with ones fingers. I have to use a pair of pliers too pull the case out. Is there any remedy for this? I am new to the Thompson Contender pistol. How hard is it to change out the extractor? Make adjustments to the extractor height? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can bend it just a touch. That will probably cure it. I have had to "adjust" extractors in the past.   KN

Remember that rimless rounds like the 9mm need an extractor that presses up on the case so that it will pop into the extractor groove on the case when you open it. Be very cautious if you work on it yourself.

A friend has a .45acp carbine barrel that takes a little effort to push the cartridge in and to remove them, but it's reliable.
