Receiver finishes on the different handi models???

Looking at the pictures (have not seen any in person) it looks like the different model handi's have different receiver finishes.

Do the blued synthetic handi's have matte finish on receivers?  It looks like the wood stocked handi's have a shiny blue'd finish, is that correct?

What is the receiver finish on the 308 survivor? 

I'd like a matte finish receiver if I have a choice. 

Shopping for my handi-rifle is getting interesting...I see H&R offers a 357 mag barrel with iron sights and they also show a stainless 30-06 barrel with iron sights.  If I get the 308 survivor and add those two barrels plus a 12 ga barrel, and make a sexy walnut stock, I could have a fun assotment of parts to play with.

I think the 223 and 308 Survivor are the only SB2 rifles to ever have had a matte finish, otherwise the rimfires and shotgun frames are the only matte finished frames. There may also be exceptions to this since H&R has made many variants of their rifles over the years.

It looks like ebay doesn't have barrels for sale anymore...when did this happen?  If I get the 308 survivor for the matte receiver I'd want to sell the barrel and stock.  Is there another way to sell the barrel?

A good share of the barrels sold on the internet are right here in the NEF Classifieds now that ebay is out for most gun parts business, that happened in August.

Thanks Tim for your continued help.  I will call H&R tomorrow to confirm which models have the matte finish on the receiver but I think I'd like the synthetic blue 30-06 and then add a 357 mag barrel.  I can also see myself buying or making a walnut stock in the future.

Few more questions...

Are the bolts for the butt-stocks and forends the same for the synthetic stock as for the wood stocked handi-rifles?  What about the shotguns?

Are all the stocks and forends interchangeable between the various models of handi-rifles?

Bolt lengths/info for the different stocks are listed in the FAQs,  all stocks fit all rifles and shotguns with the exception of some forends, the 10ga and 12ga/20ga slug gun forends are different than the rifle forends.

If you want a nice finish you will want to do it yourself.
NEF is not known for nice blueing.

Anyone else have one of these?
I have a pre-96 357 with a nickle receiver and barrel and it is stamped as a Survivor.
It came with standard black polymer stocks.
Bought it new in 2002 so it must have been in a warehouse for sometime.
The born date limits me to low pressure rounds,it's met the Maximum reamer!!

I confirmed with H&R today about the receiver finishes and the synthetic stock handi's do have a matte finish receiver.  I wish the barrels also had a matte finish!
