I shot this ammo in my Tikka 25/06 last year with Very good results. Great penetration and Expansion as well as being consistently accurate. All groups were sub moa, which is as good or better than i need for a hunting load. I would certainly recommend it.

No, as I don't thing they're necessary for whitetail deer.

If you want to spend the money thinking you'll get "deader than dead", then have at it....

There have been many debates here on Graybeard on the merits of "Premium" ammunition.

If you don't shoot much then why not use the high dollar stuff?

If you like to shoot a lot then it raises the cost of shooting.

There is no right or wrong on this issue, just personal preference.

That said, Remington Core-lokts have been killing deer longer than I've been alive.

Now if you've spent $25,000 on that once in a life time hunt, then a buck a bullet is cheap......

I'm not rich, but even if I were, I'd still hand load and get what I really want......

I tried them in a two seventy and found the impact and damage to soft tissue amazing. The explosive damage was most impressive on Louisiana whitetails, at all distances and with good heart lung shots it was gory... some folks wondered what type of gun I was shooting the devastation was so great.
compared to some other good ammunition out there, it just really blasted the ribs and heart with greater damage on the impact side than the other rounds, gave all complete pass throughs, and good sized exit hole.. They were all one shot kills with the deer dropping right there in all but one instance. probably six or seven with the rounds you questioned about. the one that ran was already trotting, and it was a perfect heart shot at about 170 yards. You could see the wound in the scope and see the gore shooting out with each bound... I liked it a lot...
If you want to avoid extra meat damage, the other ammo out there would be a good choice. in my experience the ballistic tip tended to really do a lot more damage than all the other ones I tried.  Since I take chest shots, I liked it. It worked well with neck shots frontal shots as well. never shot into the shoulder with it though. I am not using it in my three oh eight this year, as I am going to shoot a whole lot with it in order to get familiar with it and cannot afford that much premium ammo... I am not afraid of the performance of the cheap winchester soft point power points.. they work fine too.
bottom line : they are not necessary but do perform differently in my honest opinion and experience.

I shoot them in  my .270 & .280. They work great. I used to shoot them in my 7-08 but it really likes the Rem. accutips so I switched to them......they do a good job as well.

I have shot some of the 87gr silvertips in my .25-06. It likes 'em well enough. What really turns this gun into something to behold are the Federal 100 TSX factory loads!! They are spendy, but I like 'em

Hi All,

The way I look at it is this, confidence whilst shooting and especially hunting is a major factor in our success, if using what some see as premium ammunition or bullets gives them the confidence then so be it. I also notice  alot of folks seem to get upset at the $1 per cartridge or bullet? may I suggest you come for a visit to the UK and get a price education!

Although it seems that I managed to get a box of Nosler Partitions in .243 100 grain weight for less than soem would have to pay in the US. Hmmm they must have made a mistake on the pricing. I didn't realise they were partitions till I got home and opened them I just wanted dome 100 grain bullets to try in the 6mm. For price example I just brought one box of Remington .243 100 grain PSP Core-Lockt ammo and it cost $29:20 US so even normal factory ammo costs more than $1 a pop here.

Well...for some of the premiums they are steadily going over $1.00 a bullet now a days... :-[ I was at Cabela's last Friday...and my  .458 300 grain Partitions are right at $60.00 for 50...which is a bummer since they shoot so good in my 45-70...The same weight Barnes triple shocks are even more.. :o

But...to answer the original post...Yes...the 115grain CT Silver ballistic tip is a awesome whitetail round...I have used it extensively with the 25-06 and in other calibers...It makes the cartridge lethal out past 400 yards...Under 50 yards...will bloody anything you hit with it and penetration isn't as good as the 110 grain Accubonds...but...your not using the 25-06 for close range shots anyways... One thing to remember about these Lubalux coated bullets...DON'T shoot them with standard jacketed bullets...It will make a royal mess of the rifles bore...and really effect accuracy...Start from a squeaky clean bore...and use about 5-7 of them for fouling the bore...Then site in and chronograph them...I average not quite 3000fps with my 25-06...and the factory loading...You can get about 40-50 shots before having to clean it all out and start over...Reloading them...they are a couple dollars more than the standard Ballistic Tips...and your velocity will be about 40-50 fps slower than the standard ones with normal loading...but they do decrease the pressure somewhat with their coating...and you will see that if & when you reload them...I have always gotten better velocities and accuracy using them over the standard Nosler BT...and the jacket is slightly thicker on them...and the base is too...They are good bullets and I load them for all of my rifles except for the 45-70

I believe that penetration and expansion are very important. The silvertips work great in 223!

I have used them (wichester supreme balistic silver tip )in my 270 and 243 and they preform as well as anything out there ,but they are pricey. just for fun find some Fedral power shock ammo and try that on deer ,accurate and cheap and the deer are just as dead .

I don't know which weight bullet you bought, but I assume the 115 & not the 85 Varmit. On the Deer & Antelope that I saw that were shot with this bullet, the performance was very good, with good penetration & VERY good expansion.
