get em while they're hot
« on: September 25, 2007, 03:23:32 PM »
Boy....almost missed my chance for my new "Sidekick"...Went to the local gun shop Saturday morning and to my surprise he actually had what I wanted and three of them (Sidekicks that is). So I came home and called the shop I normally buy from and he only had one and had reservations about getting more. So today I go to buy it (OT in this paycheck) right after work  and there were sold stickers on the 3 he had on the rack. Now I am heartbroke and ask if he has anymore. He reluctantly  shakes his head i don't think so. now I am crushed because I really have no interest in any other brand. But to even his surprise he finds a fourth gun and says "its your lucky day. I have been looking to buy more of these all day and can't find a one". So I got my "Sidekick". What a great end to the crazy work day.

Thanks for the welcome I have been a member actually for a little less than a year. My weapon changes in the spring and I hang up the Handi's for a digital slr camera. But hunting season is just cranking up here in NY and am sure I will be loitering around the wealth of knowledge on this forum about my favorite guns. Although my wife does have to remind me that I am not allowed to shoot the squirrels with the pellet gun in the back yard throughout the year.

I do hunt Turkey and have filled my tags 2 years straight. With my smooth bore pardner 12 guage. most everything is closed here by march 30 so the camera starts in april. Turkey however is open all of may. I am the only one in my family that likes wild turkey so its more about spending time with my brother who is a genius with a call. I would go just to listen to him call!

My best hunts are with my brother. We are both so happy when the other succeeds.......Here is a story from last season. My brother Jamie has access to over 2000 acres as the result of marriage to a dairy farmers daughter. I hunt with him on the farm only a couple times a year (Don't want to overstay my welcome) and only when his father in law invites me. Actually this day his uncle in law invited me to turkey hunt with Jamie on his property. We set up about 5am in the rain  in his tent blind. When the light came he made 3 calls and stopped and said just sit and don't move. Pretty soon at 100 yards they came out all Toms.  He hit the call with 3 low clucks and purs and they started coming. They got within 40 yards as he whispers "you get the one on the right and I will get the one on the left" "on 3". 1----2-------3----we shoot simultaneously (sounds like one shot) and both birds drop on the spot. He looks to me and I look to him in awe we just shot a double HI FIVE Bro!! The best hunting experience I have ever had bar none. We get back to his uncle in laws house and his uncle says so who shot and my brother replies we both did and both got one. His uncle proclaims no way it sounded like one shot. What a great day
