XXXX on XXX calls it a "Hartin" crimp. Apparently I have jes' RE-invented the wheel!
Instead of throwing out plastic hulls that have been shortened to 2.5" for old guns because heat hardened plastic doesn't roll-crimp worth a d**n. I pulled some grungy old Gun Club and Top Gun hulls out of my discard bin and proceeded to load them as I had the first time. Powder, wads, shot and then the over-shot wad. For me, it seemed that the best crimp is when the O/S wad is about .35 below the mouth of the hull.
Then off the MEC Grabber. I ran them through the three crimp stages (Starter, crimp, and taper/finish).
The result is a near perfect roll crimp that leaves an octagonal star shape exposing the O/S wad.
