I had a chance to plink the 17HMR while letting my 9.3x62 cool at a final site in before a Moose Hunt. It did pretty well with me holding sitting at the bench. The 9.3 held it's previous Zero with the new batch of reloads so I put it away and decided to see what the 17HMR could do from the rest. As you can expect the first shot was a shock being that my brain thought I had a miss fire after shooting and dealing with the 9.3 recoil. After I got my head screwed on right I proceded to shoot a 5 shot group < MOA @ 100yds. I was amazed and so were the guys trying to get there deer rifles to shoot tight groups.
This firearm is a 93V Savage Stainless and it didn't always shoot this good. I got it new and it did get better after I ran a couple hundred rounds through it. But the trigger had a lot of creep and was pretty stout. I took it to a excellant gunsmith and for $ 40.00 I got a #4 lb. crisp breaking trigger. This really made the rifle complete. I just love this rig for varmints and playing around. Still can't believe what a good trigger job can do for a firearm!!
