New to Encores / have questions ?
« on: September 27, 2007, 09:44:33 AM »
I come from a benchrest backround strictly all bolt actions. I'am tired of hauling big rifles into the field to hunt hogs and coyotes. Thinking of buying a Encore\rifle in .223
or 22-250. My concerns are, after looking at several used Encores that were not that old I noted all the side to side play in the lock-up. This has got to affect accuracy.
I know with break action trap guns after so many rounds or years the side to side play happens and you need to see a smith to tighten the action. Also with repeated
openings and closings does this not affect the scope and the mount with some play ? Will I need to replace the hinge pin every couple of years ?
Does T/C just consider  their guns utility grade guns that will not be used that much ?

i had my first encore back when they first came out in 2000ish i was accurate with it but i didn't mount i scope i used all open sites. i sold that gun for a ruger and i regretted it big time. since then i bought another and i bougt barrels for it. its a stainless thumbhole and it is currently in the super 45 setup with a nikon scope at 100 yards with a 195 grain powerbelt and 100 grains of triple seven its hitting in the same hole. its easy to clean and with the new pro hunter its even easier with the speed breach with the gas rings. all are dead on and i have had no problem with the play but can feel it. but you do not have to buy new pins people do buy oversized and i was going to buy one but after further look into them they didn't impress me i just worked with my loads and got it back into good shape. the scope has no problem holding zero. just toruge the screws back the same way. you should have no probelms. you expect anywere from 2in to .5in with the encore if you have one at 2in you can probably dial it in more. the side the side play hasn't affected my gun any. and i have closed mine hard and slammed it and dropped it and it kept zero. if anything happens t/c will stand behind it with the best warrenty
The sportsman lives his life vicariously. For he secretly yearns to have lived before, in a simpler time. A time when his love for the land, water, fish and wildlife would be more than just part of his life. It would be his state of mind

Your scopes and open sights are mounted to the barrel on the encore.Side play between the barrel and the frame does not affect sighting.neptoon.
