modifying a ladder stand platform?
« on: September 27, 2007, 09:55:56 AM »
I have one of the inexpensive metal ladder stands with the very small foot platform, not sure exactly the measurements but it often feels too small for my size 11 boots with little space to move around on. has anyone modified such a stand to enlarge the foot platform? Its either that or sell this one for whatever I can get and buy another bigger one. thanks.

I have taken 3/4 plywood and bolted it on top of a couple of mine.  Makes the platform wider, only about 6 inches on each side, but makes a huge difference in comfort.  Also makes a good place to attach some old carpet.  Makes everything LOTS quieter.

However, I will say this.  With some of the lesser expensive "plain" stands today, you can get something that is much more comfortable for little money and adding that comfort will make you a better hunter by keeping you from moving as much and getting you al ittle higher and out of sight.

I think I will use this one for the last time this year, sell it, and at the end of the season buy another one with more features that will be comfortable to me. I have sat in enough other kinds of laddr stands on my buddies property that I know which one I want to buy now, whereas this one was a gift from my kids to me some years ago.
