As of now all I know is Savage makes the only M/L for smokeless use. But check with the malefactor to make sure. Use only recommend powder in muzzleloader's.

In addition to Savage there is a company that makes a smokeless powder rated barrel for other rifles. Mostly for the NEF or H&R break action. As stated however; read the owners manual and follow directions. Unless specifically rated for smokeless powder it is very dangerous to use smokeless in any muzzleloader.

thanks gents,..  i was asking for a friend he just bought a savage a was asking questions i couldn't answer... he also shot cap&ball an his first question was ["do U think i can use vagret" ] as i have shot bp - cap an ball, not for awhile,  an no nothing about the newer in-line m/l 'ers , i must admit it has caught my interests checking for him .. i guess i really R in the stone ages..  i'll learn along as i see the responses from the questions i have already asked.. i would have never thouhgt to put smokeless in my old 50 cal. tryon being a NoNo anyway, the highest i ever loaded was 88gr of fffg3 bp,..  trying to remember its been at least 4yrs since i've shot, i can't remember the weight of the round ball i casted for it,.. was a .490 ball though...

Even with the Savage designed for smokeless, it is very important to know what you are doing.  He should either stick with the smokeless loads in his Savage manual, or do a google search for "Doug's Savage Board".  THat will turn up a message board dedicated to that gun; there are a ton of very knowledgeable and helpful guys there.

I've never heard of someone using Varget in a Savage.

problem now is i'm getting interested in new one of these myself, but have a wildcat rifle to build  in mind at the top of my list  hmmm....for now anyways ???
