REBORE BARREL$$$
« on: September 30, 2007, 02:53:46 PM »
I got a model 28 S&W 357 .
I just got a model 29 cylinder and would like it fitted to the 28 frame.
But I want to keep the slender barrel of the 28.
So who rebores barrels? and any idea what the (rough ball park) price might be?

I'm no expert on S&W's but what you want to do doesn't sound very feasible. The barrel would probably be to thin for a 44mag. And the light weight frame may not take the punishment either. But like I said, I'm no expert on S&W.

As indicated the barrel OD is likely too small for such a rebore. Give Jim Dubell a call and he can advise. Here's his website with costs,

The frame would be the same size as the 29 but the 29's got a re-design in the late 80's, early 90's as they weren't standing up very well. The 28's weren't made with the re-design so that may cause a problem. It should be possible to find an older 29 barrel and get it all set up correctly.. Still it would not be a 29...
