new handi
« on: October 01, 2007, 03:13:01 PM »
just bought a new handi 243 in the sporter barrel.  I have only shot it 5 times. the question i have is how far out does the extractor bring the brass cartriage out.  I also read that to hot of loads will make them stick. iam shooting hornaday 58grain v-max with H414 at 48.8 grains.

Extractors lift the round out of the chamber about ¼", I doubt you'll get any sticking brass with an extractor, but ejectors are a different story, the spring in them isn't real strong and too hot loads or a dirty/oily chamber could result in sticking brass with them. Hodgdon shows your load .2gr under their max of 49gr.
