The following link is about a gun club that had a fundraiser for a kids athletic club sponsored by the local church.  The money was turned down by the church because it was connected to firearms.   I guess if they had sold Kiddie Porn tapes for the fundraiser they would have had no problems taking the money.  Perhaps if the gun club had N.A.M.B.L.A. act as an intermediary it would have been more acceptable.

The Catholic Church certainly doesn't deserve defending after recent events but the truth is, as the article you refenced pointed out, that this is not the Catholic Church's doctrine but one Cardinal's.

The Catholic Church clearly recognizes the right of self defense, and telling people to behave passively also turns out not to be very safe advice.

Yeah...sure..can't take money from good clean sports events, but proceeds from gambling are fine! Hoowee...have they  ever heard of gambling addicts?
Frankly; it's about time these guys find another church that that appreciates the funds...or at least another Catholic church that is more cooperative. Then they should direct their tithes and offerings there also and away from that Cardinal's jurisdiction!
This Cardinal is "so much holier than thou"...makes one wonder what his "outspoken" stand is about the few pedophiles in his midst!!

Interesting; a local church in my neighborhood ( independent Baptist) has a deer hunting seminar each year, put on by a fellow that goes all round the country pushing the sport!

What a contrast...if those guys want the address of that church to send the "dirty gun money" to them , I'll give them that address.
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

Ya know, it is interesting how the church got involved, or rather interferes in the relationship between God and man.  I always thought the relationship between God and man was direct - so how did the church get involved....as the middleman (?) - now, that's the sin.

I don't pretend to be holier than thou, or thee, or anyone else but I don't go to church and do not contribute to the hypocrisy expoused by the church today.  The church is far to far into politics and has stepped over the bounds of the limitations governing the separation of church and state.  I simply cannot see contributing any money to any organization that refuses to accept or respect my rights and the church falls right into that category.

Now, I have a brother who is a man of the cloth and in our , ummm, discussions, when I make him aware of my beliefs I tell him how much I regret that as a middleman he is basically out of a job from my perspective.  His response is that there are far too many lost and wandering souls out there who need redeeming and it's his job to lead them back to the fold.  It's OK with him if I don't need his particualr expertise, it just lessens his workload and gives him more time to hunt and shoot and for that he is grateful.  As am I.  And this is Mikey.
