What became of the 7.62X39 ???
« on: October 03, 2007, 08:33:38 PM »
I'm getting back into Handi-Rifles and just picked up a 22-250 with a Burris scope off of a guy.   Yes, I know the scope has a higher value than the rifle itself but it will shoot nicely.
I've been revisiting my old dream of having a bbl in 7.62X39.  As I recall, NEF wouldn't do them in the past because they didn't have blanks in the correct bore diameter for the russian bullet.   Has this changed?   I looked at their current barrel list and do not find a 7.62X39 on it.   Have they ever made one that worked?   Are they still making them?   What do I need to do to order one?
Thanks for any input,
Doc

I've got a lot of that ammo also and looked at getting one in that caliber, but they don't make them anymore probably for all the reasons you mentioned and maybe some others that you didn't.

You might want to look into ordering one of these if you really have the itch to get a 7.62x39, or maybe find a used one.

It would be nice to see them reintroduced and the bugs worked out though!

My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

They have not made them since 2004 you can still find them here and there. I found one on the shelf at a Gander Mountain up in Wisconsin that was new a couple of months ago. It is so far a sweet shooter just won't shoot the mil spec ammo and I'm ok with that. You also can find them some times just the barrel for sale but they go fast so you got to be in the right place at the right time as there are many still trying to get one. I got lucky with a tip from another member. Kurt

Supposed to be an ignition problem with mil surp ammo due to hard primers, and beefing the hammer spring is supposed to put too much stress on the transfer bar and break it.

The transfer bar is listed as a factory fit repair.
