Question for Tim or Anyone Else
« on: October 05, 2007, 04:01:46 AM »
The reason I always include Tim is he has every calbier in Handis made I think. Just bought another handi barrel off here. Can't help it , it must be like crack or something, very addictive. Anyway, it is a  25-06, can ya'll tell me about accuracy and some loads for it. Thanks.

Mine would put 2 cheap core lokts closer than I though possible, sub inch every time,
but it would warm up and throw the third shot high and right every time.

Mine does the same thing, the first two touching or close to it, then the third opens the group to ~1" with either the Federal 115gr Nosler partition or Hornady 117gr BTSP(not the light mag). ;)

My thought too, I don't intend on any colony shooting with the 25-06, so knowing the first 2 rounds are gonna be spot on, don't really care where any of the rest go cuz I'll never need em!! ;)

Mine does similar...using Winchester Sumpreme 115 grain Silver Ballistic tips...or the Supreme 110 grain Accubonds...2 in 1 hole...and one just outside...It's still a 3 shot sub MOA gun...and used only for a deer rifle...My hand loads using Reloader 25 are showing promise..but aren't up to the velocity yet...I have some Retumbo loaded for tomorrow...to chronograph and am RTV bedding my forearm right now to be able to try it too...

I haven't tried any of the Fusion Ammo in it yet...but might pick up some today to try as well..

The one shot I really worry about is first shot from a cold barrel.  I need to know exactly where it is going to hit in relation to my crosshairs.  Groups show consistent loads and they are fun on paper but that first shot needs to be, for example, 2" higher than the point of aim at 100 yards from a cold, fouled barrel every time to be of interest to me.  When the crosshairs are in the right place, I want to know where that first bullet is going to hit.  That is what makes or breaks a season of hard hunting and preparation.

Yup...this is true...but...what interest me...is for every shot...HOT OR COLD to go to the same place...It's called consistency... and that is what I strive for...Yes...it still a single shot...but if it ain't consistently accurate...it will simply be traded or sold...same for any scope that won't hold it's zero... ;)

Try the federal 117gr. that tim is talking about.  That barrel really likes those.

i've posted this safety-related little bit before:  years ago Ed Matunas warned of pressure excursions using Win-760 (H414 would be very similar) with heavy bullets in the .25-06.   hodgdon's new data site shows no 'ball' powders for 117 gr' bullets in the .25-06; and the new powders shown with the 120 gr' projectiles may also be single-based but i couldn't verify that.

take care,
