2219 Horton vs. Easton bolts
« on: October 06, 2007, 09:47:05 AM »
I have been experimenting with these on my Horton xbow. I have the bow set up for the Horton bolts perfectly but only have two and thought the Eastons would be a good equal match. But in practise with both using 100 target points, the Eastons shoot lower by several inches at 25 yds. Any thoughts on the difference between these bolts? I can't find any Hortons alum. 2219s anywhere near my home so I went to the Eastons. So far in deer hunting I only needed one bolt per season anyway to do the job!

Maybe the Hortons use lighter inserts??? Or maybe they are lighter than the Easton 2219's even though the numbers are the same. Only sure way to tell would be to weigh them both and see if their is a difference.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

yes I am sure it must be something like that or the fletching is slightly shorter on the Eastons. I will weigh them and see, but I will have to find someone who has a scale that can work on those.

If you are using same weight field tips then its either fletching or weight issue! Are they all the same length?

Yes the fletching is slightly longer on the Horton 2219s but they are the same length and supposed to be the same wgt. for 2219.

The shaft should weigh the same if made of the same type n spec's as eastons. With the Hortons having 5" and eastons having 4" vanes eastons should be lighter. Cept the spec's Hortons could be made out of lower grade alum. thats lighter than eastons. Insert weights or nok weights something is different! Maybe the way its fletched? Offset vs. helical can cause arrows to hit different POI.

I definitely think its the fletching different size that causes the POI change. I am planning to zero the scope on this xbow in on the Eastons, since they are brand new and I have 3 of them. thanks.

UPDATE-

finally got around to sighting it in with the Easton 2219 arrows and its dead on at 25 yds. with target and expandable broadheads. I think the difference was really in the length of the fletching although I never weighed both arrows yet. Guess I won't need to do that.
