Well guys here are some pictures of my 243 SPS Varmint. I have a Mueller 8.5x25x44 tactical scope on the top of it. This is the rifle I shot the .75   3 shot group at 300 yards. I did the camo paint job myself. What do you think of it? The first picture is the 300 yard target. I just remeasured the bullet holes in the target. They are 7/8'' center to center.   Dale

Perhaps if you'd paid attention and used www.myhostedpics.com like I've said a million times we would even be able to see your photos.  ::)

Yea many Groundhogs out to 400 yards. Most between 200 and 300 though. The farms I hunt have fields that reach as far 800 or 900 yards. These are some very big fields and long distances. I would never try a shot at that kind of range. I did take a shot on one at about 600 yards about a month ago on a slow day. This guy has been bugging me all summer. I spent most of the summer hunting with the 204 and did not want to try it with it. When I fired I did see him run about 20 feet into the corn stalks but have not saw him since. I may have got him. I just don't know for sure.  Dale

Yes I am going to have to use it for deer this year. My personal opion is a 243 is a little on the light side for deer but many do hunt with them. I think with a good 100 or 105 grain bullet I should be ok out to 250 to 300 yards. Dale

I like those rifles.

What twist rate is the barrel in .243?  Interested in a fast twist for the high bc.

What loads for the group in the photo?

Trigger is adjustable right?

Anyone know what twist their same .223 has and if the Tactical has a faster twist than the Varmint?

Do some stocks come in olive rather than black?

Thanks   ;)

The rate of twist 9 1/8''. The group I shot there was with factory ammo. It was Hornady 58 grain V-Max Molly coated. The 223 Tactical comes in the 9'' and the Varmint 223 comes in the 12''. I think that the Varmint might come in the Olive green color but not sure on that. Yes the trigger is adjustable. Dale

Dale,

A .75" group at 300 yds?

Fish stories belong in a different forum.  ;)

Just messing with you. That's a good looking rifle and obviously it shoots well too!!
Good luck this year , and don't listen to the naysayers who will put down the .243 for deer hunting.

Dale- I have referred to that 3/4" group more than once in GB. You can not ask for anything better, especially with factory ammo and a pure stock rifle. Good job and it does impress ME. The paint job looks good too.

just bill - I saw green stocked varmint SPS on sale over the week end in 223 and 22-250. Do not know if it was a special for that store brand (their main color is green) and if you can only get them in the .224 cartridges.
