Pre-64 Md. 70 Featherweight
« on: October 08, 2007, 11:44:15 AM »
Looked at one today that was an honest 85%+, 30-06.  According to the serial number it was made in 1960 and has a good bright bore.  Any issues with this particular rifle/caliber?  A good friend's brother has one almost identical (not nearly as good condition) that shoots like a house on fire.  I can probably pick it up in the $700-$750 range.  The wood's is somewhat plain with straight grain, any thoughts?  Thanks, T.

That's pretty much all the $$$ for an 85% gun w/o extra holes.

In my area of the country, that isn't a bad price at all. If you like the rifle, and it sounds like you do, I'd buy it. I really doubt that it will be worth less than you paid for it, and you will have a classic rifle to cherish and shoot. I have one in 308, and she ain't for sale. ;D

I'd say, buy it. My preference is a .270 and my son and I both have pre '64s in .270. They are a classic rifle and will always hold their value. I looked a long time before I found these two at  prices I could afford and I think that $700.00-$750.00 is reasonable. I've been offered more than that for each of these, but neither will ever be sold. They are heirlooms to be passed down to children, grandchildren and beyond. I just hope and pray that they will be able to hunt, too.
