Good evening at the range!
« on: October 09, 2007, 03:11:39 AM »
I went out to a buddy's farm and shot last night after work.
Only had about 2 hours but I got a lot done.

50yd

7mm-08. Rem 140 core lokt.
The first shot from a very clean dry bore was 3" low.
2,3&4 made a 3/4" group one click left of aim.
Shot 5 was 2" low but the barrel was worm to the touch.

223 hb. 55g Winchester silver tip.
made groups to small to measure.

50cal muzzle loader (Springfield hawken +10 years old). 295g power belt over 60g pyrodex.
Two shots 1.5" apart 1" above bulls eye. Done. Just checking this one.

30/30 marlin. Federal 125g hp
shot a group just over and inch but was of and had to shot a couple more times to sight in 1" high.Done
This is more of an art than a science with the truly IRON sights.

200yd

223
Shot two rounds 1.25" apart. Then I removed the rear bag and hit a 4" gong with the next three.
She is ready for coyotes.

7mm-08
This thing is very picky about heating and I was racing the sun but I was able to get it just a little high at this range.
Certainly ready for deer but I'm not done with her just yet.

Sounds like you've about got them dialed in PartsMan! My Marlin 336 30-30 seems to like the Remington 150 gr
Core-locks. I have tried some lighter 130 gr bullets, but never got them to group very well.

I wanted to try the 125g hollow points because it is my backup all around rifle.
I figure they will do the trick on coyote control.

You would have to single feed them into your 336 30-30 and I don't know your local laws but something like this would be bad knews on dogs.

I am happy with the 125s.
If I shoot sabots on coyote then I have to switch back for deer.
Sighting in this rifle is a chore.
