Nope.  Too tight of fit and I kept blowing patches.  Went to .490 (I cast them) and a thicker patch with better results.

I use .495 balls in my Lyman Deerstalker. That along with pillow ticking I got from Wal-Mart, and liquid Wonderlube from Traditions. 80g Of Pyrodex RS sends it on it's way at around 1780 fps, and they all land in a 2" circle at 80 yards.

Yes...Lyman Great Plains likes a  Speer ball .495 and 15/1000 patch with 105 grains of pyrodex.

Took my first buck with a ball 2 years ago.

Have a Green Mountain ball barrel on my Hawken ( TC) and its best load is a .495 ball with .020 pillow ticking patch , crisco or bore butter for lube and 70 grains of 3f Swiss black.Havent chrono'd yet but it shoots cloverleafs at 75 yards. Yes it loads tight.Accuracy is poor with  .015 patches but I've recently got some .018 and as soon as the rain stops I'll try it.

I use a .495 ball in my Shenandoah and .500 in the Greenmountain replacement barrel on the T/C Hawken.
