powder swap day

i do not know how you would pull one of these off,sorta like the ladys do with a cookie swap.
say everybody brings samples of powders they have to swap with others. you know like i always wanted
to try blc-2 or r25 or tight group. so i swap with someone who looking for what i have and the reverse for me.
just an idle thought from me on this friday night so close to firearms season my mind is playing tricks with me .

The logistics would be interesting to say the least - especially since, at least in my opinion, the best use for powder not in its original container is fertilizer.  So, that means carting a bunch of partial 1lb containers t & fro, assuming you even have 1lb container of powder.

Not a bad idea. I would have some concerns over the possibility of mixed or missmarked powders. Really not that expensive to buy a pound of a different powder to try every now and then. That way you'll have a cabinet full of powder to rediscover someday!

Personally I think it an EXTREMELY poor idea. It is a mistake and a dangerous one to trust powder unless it is in a sealed and unopened container to really be what it is supposed to be. You really cannot tell very many powders by looks and using data for the wrong one you "think" it is when it is in fact another can get you hurt, killed or maimed.

My recommendation to everyone is one I follow myself: If powder is not in an unopened and factory sealed container I just will not accept it from ANYONE.

I agree,in fact that is the #1 rule of reloading an oldtimer told me when starting out that I always followed!!

The guy that lives accross the road from me and myself will sometimes swap powders to try , the 3 rules that we always use are , it comes from a factory bottle and we only get enough to do the test loads we are doing at the time and we always watch the person pour the powder .

We both have a scrap powder bottle that any left over powder goes in along with the last few grains that are left in bottles and are not enough to do anything with . Come spring it goes on the garden .
