I am aware of the fbi work with lower power loads. for me it was current events, not history.

my shotgun selection is the Remington 1100.  it is good for anything from #9 shot to slugs.  birds to bears. after much  experimentation my buckshot load is #1 buck short mag.  contains 20-30cal pellets and patterns best in my gun.

Mine is a Rem.-870 20 bbl with rifle sights and screw in choke tube ( added ) . I have been told by more than one that a 20 ga. 1100 is the most reliable auto made . I know the 1100 is the softest shooting . The 12 should be as nice !
I like the lighter weight of the 870 .

i have had an 870 since the mid 80s. 20", rifle sights, pro-ported, 8 shot mag, solid teflon follower, full length stock with pistol grip and synthetic fore end. it is a great gun. however, I am much faster with my 1100. I have cleared a 5 pin table in 3.5 seconds with my 870. With my 1100 I can do it is 2.2 seconds. I know there are a hand full of people who are faster with a pump than an auto, but I am not one of them. regarding weight, while shooting I have never noticed the difference.

Back during the Y2K scare a co-worker mentioned he already HAD everything  that he was reading in those fema booklets , "think it was fema" anyhow , including a generator , I glanced over knowing full well he was not a current gun owner , and said , "oh ya? , what makes you think I am goin let you keep it"
He actually became rather offended that I was suggesting his goods may become mine.
Was I talking in jest? Well we may  hopefully never find out.
Then he blurted out he would buy a gun , I wanted to know when , after the fact??
A week or so goes by and he is talking to another co worker about where to buy a gun.
I told him I would sell him one , I ended up selling him a cheap 22 rough rider , kicked in a box of shells and a cable lock since he was concerned about the children and showed him how to remove the cylinder and put the cable threw it and lock it up.
After this point he was rather cocky about now being able to protect his goods.
And the thought that kept going threw my mind , but I just did not have the heart to tell him was this , "I ain't afraid of him or his 22 pistol"
What does this all mean? Nothing , just tossin' it out there.

Oh , and I am willing to bet dollars to donuts he still has that same box of shells and that cylinder has not been put back in that gun since late 1999

There was a time when many folks had little more than a front stuffer for a SHTF weapon , on the other hand that was most likely what their adversaries were armed with also.
But on the other had at times there may have been more than one adversary.
Is it any wonder we made it this far.....

I've had the Henry version. Mags were a problem. They made good on that. It's OK as a stash gun or emergency kit rimfire.

For a regular use gun, however you may want something a bit more rugged. Ruger makes what is still the best .22 auto made. A good bolt or single shot might be an option also.

No sir , that is not what I ment to say but , then again my question was rhetorical so .........\

Maybe in the future during some period of civil unrest I just may take up a stand out front with my flint lock and a BP revolver , just to be different.

SharonAnne , think of it with  a hint of sarcasm , perhaps you would need to actual hear me say those words instead of reading them to understand what I ment. Or maybe I just ramble too much?

SHOOTALL , to a point , regardless of the drive in ones heart , attacking a machine gun bunker with a pocket knife is  considered foolhardy by most. But people have long made due with what was at hand , granted having the latest and greatest isn't always a  terrible thing , but at the end of the day regardless of which long arm I have I think it'll be alright.
Now my gun may jam , and all of the internet will click their tongues and shake their heads and claim how I would have lived if I only chose such and such weapon.
But hey , you do what you can right? I just think it will come down to more than just if my longarm has a "R" or a "K" as it's second letter.

Y2K!! , don't remind me , it was shortly before the predicted fall of society that all these yuppie metro sexuals ran out and bought theirselves alot of G.I Joe gear , hence raising the prices of stuff I normally bought. Local sales of web gear for example went threw the roof , and forget about MRE"s , you'd have thought those boxes contain gold ................ or gasoline  :o
