357 for Hog hunting
« on: October 16, 2007, 03:01:15 PM »
Question for you all,

What is the best round for the .357 Ruger Vaquero to hog hunt with? I live in Hawaii so i do not have a lot of choices since the companies will not ship it here. Choices are Black hills wadcutter 145 grain (Cowboy Load). Federal hollow points 185 grain. Just these two are available. Will be hunting in the brush and 20 yards is my range.  Anywhere from Shoats to 200lbs boars Suggestions?
Thanks
Paul

If that's the ONLY choices the Federal for sure. Don't use those wadcutter cowboy loads.

Thanks for the info. I bought federal 158grain lead points and use them. I also found out i could order more ammunition through my gun dealer but i have to wait a month for them to come in.

I use an older Model 19 Smith and Wesson and found the best 357 handgun rounds for hogs are offered by Midway. They are the 180 grain bullets made by Core-bond.

If your gun dealer carries Federal have them order the 180 grain Federal CastCore.
