While sitting in a tree and looking around, I saw a flash at my 5 o'clock, twenty yards from me. With his head down, my first thought was, "that's a really big doe" and "I'm going to shoot that sucker." As I'm a right hand shooter, luckily it was headed behind me and should pass on my left, but might take a turn away from me. I had no choice but to wait until he came out on the other side. I saw him between the brush headed in the right direction and laid an ambush between two trees. As soon as he stepped in the open, my Ruger #1, loaded with a Hoch, 423 grain patched bullet over 52 grains of surplus IMR 4895 barked. His head was still down, grazing and the bullet entered just behind the right shoulder and came out his neck. Needless to say, he dropped where he was standing. Tried to find the bullet without luck.
