After Market grips for Ruger Bisley .44 Mag Super Blackhawk Hunter

    Does anyone know of any good after-market grips for the Ruger Bisley  ; preferably rubber over-sized and with finger grooves? my hand size is above average w/ large palm but average finger length.   Pete

    Did I commit the unpardonable sin by asking this question?.....why no responses?.....are there no other options out there but the factory wood grips?.....I've used them on a 22 bisley just fine but traditionally have needed over sized rubber grips for heavy shooting revolvers. I guess I could just use a shooting glove for better grip.....especially here in the AZ desert where hands can get rather sweaty.

Seriously, you'll want to check on Midway for Houge grips, but I do not remember seeing any.  I have ivory and ebony micartas on my .500 and .475 Linebaugh, because grabby rubber grips is the last thing you want on a heavy recoiling single action revolver; that is if you like keeping the skin on the web of your palm.

   Must be the way I hold a heavy shooting revolver.....cause the over sized rubber grips are much more steady in my hands.....smooth wooden grips look great but usually slide around too much in my hand....I have large palms with average finger length. Again I live in the desert of Az and at times sweat plays a role too. Would still like to find and try a properly sized pair of rubber grips.

No one makes rubber grips for a Bisley. You could have the grip frame swapped out with a regular BH/SBH grip frame and then you could easily enough find a rubber grip for it. Or you could just buy a slip on rubber sleeve and slide it over the Bisley grip to almost give you what you want. Which size to get would be the problem and that I can offer no help on but they are made in several sizes and I'm sure one would fit.

have not seen the rubber bisley grips...
that is probably why you had no responses.. no one with experience on it read it... thought someone would see it who knew, but.. hey.... it happens.
there are plenty of oversized Super Black Hawk grips and several are offered for it... hogue, pachmayer, etc.

perhaps that would be a good market to enter.... rubber bisely grips...

   Thanks Guys.....your answers  confirm what my investigations have shown...that there are no Bisley styled rubber grips. I guess with my budget as tight as it is, I'm reluctant to get anything I have to alter with a new grip frame or any other significant alteration.... perhaps I should consider the SS Ruger Blackhawk in 45 Colt. As with my Marlin 1895GS in 45-70...it could be loaded from "mild to wild" (w/in safe parameters of course as per reloading manuals or +P factory loads). Then i could put Pachmyer or Hogue grips on it.
   Greybeard.... I heard it said that you prefer DA revolvers for the heavier cartridges.....perhaps I should re-think DA options too as in the Redhawk. Would appreciate any thoughts on that one too.

DA guns in general deliver the recoil more straight back into your hand. The SA guns in general are designed to roll up and slide thru your hand during recoil. What you are wanting is to counter act the way the SA gun is designed using rubber grips. Not a good idea in my opinion. If like me you don't like the gun to roll up in recoil then I suggest you give a DA gun a try instead of trying to make something of an SA it wasn't meant to be.

Here's a couple of grip makers for your pistol, but you won't get no rubber ones from these guys.  They do custom grips and probably can take care of the finger grooves and oversize panels.

Another option would be to have Herrett's make you a custom grip made to fit your hand.

I'd guess there aren't any aftermarket grips for Bisleys because the Bisley grip frame has such a reputation for handling recoil. They pinch my finger behind the trigger guard, so I'd love something like a Tyler T-Grip there, but good luck finding that.

I have had excellent results with EAGLE GRIPS Gunfighter models, either smooth or checkered, on Bisleys and Supers and Vaquero equivalents of both in 357 and 44.  In SINGLE ACTION SIXGUNS, one of John Taffin's best books, he mentions Larry Caudill flat filing the Bisley grip frames while making new grips, giving a little more knuckle clearance.  Bowen shows some radical trimming and re-shaping of Bisley grips and grip frames in THE CUSTOM REVOLVER.    Dustin Linebaugh is also mentioned for doing subtle modifications to his custom grips.  Klamath river woodworks and Caryc at clccustomgrips.com have a lot of fans.

This is such a subjective area that no one can give you a "written in stone answer."  You may spend some money on your quest---I know I have!
