.308 ????
« on: October 19, 2007, 02:51:27 PM »
Has anyone ever loaded some .308s with IMR 4350?
Thought about trying this powder on some heavier bullets (180gr).
Can't find alot of load data for this though. ???

I have seen it in other manuals but the Lyman 46th Edition shows a  45.0 grain starting load of IMR4350 producing a velocity of 2277 and a max load of 51.0 grains producing velocity of 2624fps.  The Sierra 5th Edition also has 4350 data.

Nosler has it listed as the slowest powder for the 165/168 bullets... at 2502fps-2647fps-2792fps at 104%-995-95% case capacity using 46-48-50.0 grains respectfully ...and the second to slowest powder with the 180 weights showing 108%-104%-99%..at 2488fps-2593fps-2698fps .packing the case with 46-48-50 grains respectfully... It's defiantly a compressed charge...I had good luck using Varget for the 165/168 grainers...and IMR4064 for the heavier bullets..With the long throats on the Handi's...you'll be able to seat the bullets out further than if loading for a magazine...which should drop the % numbers down somewhat..

Mac, thanks for the info btw, the .308 isn't a Handi its a Stevens 200.
Ran up on it and thought I would give it a try.
My next .308 will be a Handi though. ;D
